SUBANG JAYA: Asia Club, AsiaCafé will open its door again for the next foosball tournament on 27th April 2007.

According to the FCM schedule for the 2007 season, the upcoming tournament will be the Players Challenge Foosball Tournament which is scheduled to be held from April 27 to 29.

The organiser takes a break from February to March for the festive and exam season after KOO7 and shall resume their events in April.

Oliver Yong, the organiser for the upcoming Players Challenge told FCM, "We have more talented foosers this time to give us feedback and help us prepare for the next tournament. We appreciate all the supports shown to us and we shall continue to serve the foosball community with more challenging tournaments. I believe more foosers will show their support to our upcoming event.”

When asked if he was worried by the tight schedule during the tournament (they organise 7 to 8 events in 3 days), Oliver said the team’s vast experience would help overcome this challenge. “I think we have plenty of experience and this will help us overcome the tight schedule. We always had to deal with this (tight scheduling). However, if we plan it well, we can cope with it.”

Interview : Shaun P'ng aka Shaun Boy

Shaun P'ng SUBANG JAYA: FCM finally got the do the long awaited interview with KOO7 champion and Malaysia no.1, Shaun P'ng, who is not just a top fooser in Malaysia but also an avid car enthusiast.

Shaun P'ng, also passionately known as Shaun boy to the local foosball community has got a whole cabinet full of trophies he won over the years. This is not the first time Shaun boy bagged double champion in the open category, his last winning spree was during FCM Classics 2005 where he won himself 2 foosball tables.

FCM: So 1st things 1st, when and how did you started playing foosball?
SP: Started with Lowen & switched to Tornado eventually after I play with it a few times for 1 reason, I can control the ball! Started playing Tornado when I was 17 and I was not really into it until I join the Penangites for a trip to the 1998 Nationals which was held in JB. It was the best National ever. Too bad I'm only 17.

FCM: What was your training regime like?
SP: Perfection.

FCM: Was there anyone that you look up to then or guide you along the way?
SP: Khoo Teng Boon showed me the 1st few steps, the rest are O&A.

FCM: What's your most memorable moment in your foosball career? Why?
SP: The 1st major tournament I join, 1999 Nationals. Which got me Singles Champion of champions, Open Singles Champion, Open Doubles 1st runner up with Khoo Teng Boon. Why? My 1st Jacket for rainy days!

FCM: Who do you think had been your toughest opponent all these while? Why?
SP: Miqdad Suwaidi. He's smart, he's fast, and he’s consistent. He got everything.

Shaun P'ng & Ng Eng HwaiFCM: As we all know you’ve been missing from the foosing scene for a while before this. And you came back with a bang during FCM Classics and been on winning form again since then. Tell us what your motivation is and how you feel about that?
SP: Actually I came back n join FCM classic because Ng Eng Hwai asks me to, so I gave him my support. Was very LUCKY to win 2 torpedo tables though.

FCM: You’ve been holding on to the no. 1 spot in Malaysia for quite a long time now. Would you give it one more try at the States?
SP: Yes, I want it badly. But mou $$.

FCM: What do you think about our Malaysian foosball scene?
SP: Sweet if all could unite as 1. =)

FCM: What do you think the future holds for us?
SP: None can tell but dun give up. I’m sure we will get what we deserve 1 day.

FCM: What is the thing that you loved most about foosball?
SP: Everything.

FCM: Give us a word of advice.
SP: To all those out there that’s picking up the sport. You guys are doing great. Keep it up and we shall share the fun together. Foosball is not bout winning or losing; enjoying the game is what matters.

FCM: So last question, how is your engine?
SP: Next project. Turbo-charged K20A. =P

Interview : Chin Jhin Seong

Jhin Seong SUBANG JAYA: FCM recently spoke to FCM KOO7 Rookie Singles and Doubles champ, Chin Jhin Seong, one of the upcoming star and most consistent rookie, who spent some time off his busy schedule for this interview.

Jhin Seong, who became the first to win both rookie categories for FCM's first tournament this year, is a first year law student in Help University College. The 18 year old lad is passionately known as the "Snake King" among his friends back in college.

Favourite Shot:
A standard rocking snake shot. If I'm trying to show off I'll walk it around and make everyone think I'm searching for holes.

Favourite Pass:
Still stick pass. It takes the least brainpower to use.

FCM:  You're quite new in the local foosball scene, where are you from?
CJS: Born in Sabah, raised in K.L.

FCM: How long have you been foosing?
CJS: I started playing more seriously with my girlfriend, Christine, in college. Roughly five months ago.

FCM: Where have you been playing and how much have you learnt?
CJS: I play in college in my spare time and the occasional visit to AsiaClub or Breakers club on the weekends. My first tournaments were DYPs and I've probably learnt the most from those.

FCM: What or who motivates you to pick up foosball and why?
CJS: I got bored and decided to put two coins into a strange table with rods. I turned out to be a natural at it and the rest is history.

Jhin Seong & ChristineFCM: What gives you the winning edge? There's a lot of good rookie foosers out there, in your opinion, what's that one thing that makes you a champion?
CJS: Generally, having my girlfriend by my side when I play =) Technically, I practised 2-5 row passing because I felt that shooting/clearing the ball from the back wasn't as reliable. In my opinion that's what made the difference. Nobody else does it =P *anyone else who does it now is a copycat!*Also, I NEVER SCOLD MY PARTNER *during the game* It's completely counter-productive cause she will just get angry and play worse. I LOVE my girlfriend =)

FCM: What's your most memorable moment in your foosball career? Why?
CJS: All the times I've won LAH. With my girlfriend. That's a reason in itself.

FCM: What are you looking forward to from now?
CJS: Looking forward to more tournaments which would mean more wins for me with my girlfriend by my side. I love her =)

FCM: You also won the KOO7 Rookie Doubles with Christine Hia. In your opinion, what is the most important thing about this partnership?
CJS: We understand each other better than other pairs, we don't put pressure on one another, and most importantly we get to hug each other without feeling gay! *no offense to our gay community

FCM: In future events, will you partner up with any other foosers? What do you look for in a doubles partner?
CJS: Unfortunately for the single girls (and guys), I'm taken. The perfect doubles partner is someone who you'd have the most fun playing with, whether you win or lose. Even better if you love the person =)

FCM: What do you think about the KOO7 event and will you be looking forward for another event as such?
CJS: We had a lot of fun participating in the KOO7 event. It was very well organized and we'd definitely look forward to a similar event in the future. It was also nice that the tournament area was (almost) smoke-free for the non-smokers.
